Using census for 'lost' relatives

I have found a few people who do not appear in their normal surroundings at census time by tracing their children, and this is especially useful when the surname has been misread or mistranscribed. Parents, particularly widowed mothers, often stayed or went to live with married childen.

I've found this quite a bit too, father or mother who were once Head of the household are now right down the list of names as their son or daughter becomes the Head.
