All records on Ancestry are not indexed

Post by BarbaraW »

I only found this out today by chance so apologies if you all knew this before!!

Today I found a marriage with LAN OPC and it was also in Family Search. I went to Ancestry to see the image. The parish register for St Peter, 1834 is showing as being online. However despite many searches in the fields trying all kinds of spelling with not the result I was looking for I reverted to the old way of scrolling through the images to get to the right date and sure enough there it was as per LAN OPC's transcription.

I had assumed if they had it online then it must be searchable, apparently not, so it's made me rethink when I can't necessarily find something I'm looking for as indexed, to try browsing instead. I'm wondering if this is the same for all the paid subscribed sites?

I would not be at all surprised, the transcription and index of St Peter's has been a long time coming.
