AN ONLY SON
Private W.F. Halsall, of the King's Liverpool Regiment, only son of Mr and Mrs W Halsall, 27 Brae-St, Liverpool, has been killed in action. He joined the Pals in Feb 1915 and spent his 21st birthday in the trenches. Before enlisting he was employed by Messrs Elder, Dempster, and was a prominent member of St Cyprian's Church, Edge Hill. For completeness of the family names and his age.

In 1911 at 18 Durden Street, Smithdown Road, Liverpool Elizabeth Halsall was 43 years old, from Tong, Shifnal, Shropshire "Wife" but with no husband at home, married 17 years and with 4 children. William Formby Halsall 16, a Junior Clerk in a sweet factory, Mary Elizabeth 13 scholar, Edith Agnes 10 scholar and Gladys Mary 6 scholar, children all born in Toxteth.
