The above man was on the HM Ship Bramble, Gun Boat 1st Class, Station China, in Shanghai, on the night of Sunday 2nd April, 1911, the Lieutenant Commander, Executive but no details, such as age, marriage status or birthplace is given.

He was born in Bedford in Q3 1877, so maybe not.

Having scrolled down the births for Washingtons and, I think, discounting the couple of Berties and a Ben, I'm thinking that this must be a nickname, Bert perhaps and we should be looking for an Albert.

The CWGC entry shows 1940 as year of death so I agree he is not the right man.

PS: There is no Washington on the Liverpool Twon Hall Roll of Honour.
PPS: There was no B. Washington listed in Liverpool in 1911.

Now I don't want to get everyone's hope up but I have possibly found B. Washington

Going through Liverpool Echo for 26th Jan 1916 and I came across an In Memoriam Notice for the following:-

According to CWGC his DOD is 13th January 1915

Liverpool Echo 28th-Jan-1916

GIRARD-In loving memory of Bertram W (Bert) Girard, who was lost on H.M.S Viknor, January 1915-Emma and Nancy.

I think the reason the In memoriam notices are being published 26th January is because they did not know what happened and when. They did not know if the ship foundered or if it hit a mine. Bodies started getting washed ashore in Ireland 26th January 1916 hence families recorded DOD as 26th January 1916.

You've hit the bullseye again, well done. B.W. Girard, HMS Viknor, is on the Town Hall Roll of Honour with no rank. On the same panel is A.B. B.W. Gerard, same ship, which must be a wrong duplication. [edited]
