The above soldier is recorded on the Merseyside Roll of honour site as being Killed on 30th June 1917 and his biographical details are recorded as Husband of Elizabeth Gordon, married 1913 and son of James and Bridget Cosgrove. The Thomas Cosgrove who married Elizabeth Gordon at Our Lady's of Reconciliation was the son of George Cosgrove of 87, Rose Place.

The correct details for Thomas Cosgrove killed 31st July 1917 are:-
Thomas Cosgrove married Ann Murphy in 1905, in 1911 Thomas aged 29 and Ann Cosgrove resided at 3, Egremont Buildings, Furlong Street, with Henry Cosgrove aged 3 and John Cosgrove aged 2. 3 further children were born:- Joseph 1911, Hannah 1913 and Thomas 1916.
A report of his death appeared in the Liverpool Evening Express on 14th September 1917 with the following write up.
Cpl. Thomas Cosgrove K.L.R. age 34 was killed in action on 31st July, he had been wounded once before. He had been at the front altogether about two years. Before the outbreak of war he was employed at J. Bibby and Sons - Oil cake mills. He leaves a wife and five children who reside at 56 Wilbraham Street, Scotland Road.

There are 2 T. Cosgroves on War Memorials Bibbys and also St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C., Litherland. I think (could be wrong) that the T. Cosgrove on the R/C Church in Litherland is this seaman.

COSGROVE:-June 30 through an accident whilst doing his duty on board ship Thomas (Tommy) the dearly beloved second son of Mrs. Cosgrove, of 26, Catherine Street, Litherland, buried at sea. A search of the deaths at sea states his death was due to suffocation.
