"Tracing Your Liverpool Ancestors," Mike Royden

Post by Cupcake »

Terrific book about Liverpool by local. Some general history will apply to the area, but not always as Liverpool did not stretch out too far until the railroad, which in itself is good to recognize when researching ancestors pre-railroad. What is close to us today (Liverpool is 9 miles from Ditton) was a 4 1/2 -5hr walk in another time. Also provides good resources at the end of each chapter for specific interests (maritime, slavery, poverty, education, war). Mike Royden also has a useful website and has been generous with sharing his knowledge and information.

Agreed Cupcake, an excellent resource for those of us with Liverpool ancestors. So much information given to help you to dig deeper and all neatly put together, my copy (2nd edition) only arrived this week and I've learnt so much already.

Mike's website is one of the best on the local history of Liverpool .
