Hi guys
I'll post a photo of Leslie Allison, taken when he was 16 perhaps?
He was born in 1914 to 18??
No luck finding his birth.
Ran away from home & joined up.
He came from Bootle and I've permission from family to list it here in the hope someone may know the cap badge.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi Tina,

Could possibly be RAMC (Royal Army medical Corps) badge.

If is has a serpent surrounded by laurel leaves, with In arduis Fidelis.. then it probably is.

It ususally has a crown at the top but I cannot see one in this picture.

I also thought it may have been the RAMC, but the crown was on the outside on the top, my ex hubby was in the RAMC (TA).

I found this, which looks a bit similar to the one on Leslie's hat.

I'd go with the South Lancs, and not RAMC. The South Lancs depot was at Warrington, so not far to travel to enlist!

The South Lancs Regt was based at Warrington & St Helens
This is a comparison showing the two badges

Thanks for pm Linda & to your hubby for tidying the photo, he did a good job.
Looks like the badge to me.
Linda also suggested the white belt could mean he was in the band!
Thank you everyone

Just a point, the badge was worn by all the Battalions of the South Lancs not just the 5th.

5th Battalion based in St Helens.

4th Battalion based in Warrington.

If he had enlisted with the South Lancs (The Prince of Wales' Volunteers), he would have a service number in the range of 3644001 - 3701000.

I have built up a Eoll of Honour for the South Lancs Regt during WW2, that includes the names of over 1,500 men who served with them.

I cannot see any Allison on the list which suggests that he survived the war.

There were a fair number of Battalions during ww2, but I suspect that he may have been with one of the territotials.

1st/4th - Served throughout the UK
2nd/4th - Served UK then converted to 13th Parachute Bn
1st Bn - Dunkirk -> UK -> NW Europe
2nd Bn India -> UK -> Madagascar -> India -> Burma
5th Bn - Converted to 61st Searchlight RA.
6th Bn - UK
7th Bn - UK - India
8th Bn - UK
9th Bn - UK
