John E Poole - WW1 Soldier

It's me again, struggling to find details for another man who served in the 9th King's Liverpool Regiment in WW1.

What I'd like to find are the birth and death details for him and his wife.

He is John E Poole (middle name possibly Edward) and he married Ida May Patterson (Q2, 1920, Wirral Cheshire). I have ordered their marriage certificate which will provide further details.

I am told by a relative that they both died about 1975 with Ida dying a short time before John. Both deaths were at Willaston, Wirral.

I can't find either of them on any Census, either, unless Ida May Patterson was born and lived at Great Crosby, in which case I have found her on the 1901 Census with her parents.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Could this be his birth?

John Edward Poole March quarter 1896 Birkenhead vol 8a page 541

The marriage will give father's names so should make it easier to find the couple.

Thanks Ed-O.

Where did you find that information? I have searched on Ancestry but that birth didn't appear.

Thanks Susan. The marriage certificate will confirm if he is my man.

I just put in John Edward Poole born 1895 and up popped a few John Edwards but I reasoned the one in Birkenhead could be your man but we'll have to wait for the marriage to see if possibly we have the right man.

With a view to eliminating or confirming the family that North Meols gave above, I repeat the 1901 census details including occupation, address and birthplaces. Hopefully the occupation and father from the marriage cert. will help with identification. The birthplaces seemed to me to be particularly relevant.

1901 34 Irwell Street, Stand Lane, Lancashire
John Poole Head M 32 Mechanical Engineer Employer (Parner?) Denb'e New Mills (or could be Derb'e)
Emma Wife M 31 same birthplace
Beatrice daur 7 Lancs Openshaw
John E son 4 Lancs Radcliffe
Edna Mary daur 8 months " "

I'm not convinced the middle initial is an E

Radcliffe is in the Bury Registration district. I don't think this John is the same as the one born in the Birkenhead Registration district but the marriage cwrtificate will tell us hopefully.

Whoops!

Thanks Jan, I had missed the replies.

Still no sign of the certificate I ordered, but the death details seem to match the information given to me by their grandson.

Thanks again,

Ken

I don't know if you're still looking for information but John (Edwin) and Ida were my grandparents. I don't have a lot of information but I'll try to answer anything you may want to know. They only had one son, my father (John Poole). who passed away in 1996.

Yes, I'm still looking for information. and I'd particularly like to find a photograph of John. I know that his family ran Poole's Printers and Stationers in Moor Street, Ormskirk for quite a few generations up to John's father and that they later lived at Greetby Hill, Ormskirk.

My particular interest is in the men from Ormskirk who served in the local Territorial unit, the 9th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment, so anything you know would be very gratefully received.

I have a website on the subject here: 9th King's

I'll try to dig up what I can. I may have a picture or two of him. I know he was a bank manager, I believe with Midland Bank and lived most of their adult life in Willaston.

No, sadly not. The person who raised my hopes hasn't returned. But I live in hope. Well, actually, I live in Ormskirk - but you know what I mean.

Maybe he didn't set his profile to receive notifications so hasn't received the reminders, but I notice that he has put an email address in there (an american one I believe), perhaps a direct contact might do the trick?

I don't see an e-mail address in his profile. Am I looking in the wrong place?
