Hi everyone, I need some documents from merchant navy or royal navy deciphering please. I tried to post on here but I could not upload the images of documents. I am really lost with these docs and its like speaking a foreign language.
Instead I posted on the facebook page so please have a look and see if there is anything you can tell me about them.
Cheers
Amanda

Amanda,

As Mary mentions, I am one of those who don't use facebook (or any social media sites) but I would be happy to try and help with your military terminiology issue if I can. I spent 25 years in the Army and my father was in the Royal Navy (albeit before I was born!). If you are not able to post the images here, try just typing in the words/abbreviations which are causing you problems, preferably with a bit of context.

Andy

Hi and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from me. Thank you again for your help. I have managed (somehow) to upload a file to facebook with my great grandad's documents. I am now going to try and put them up on here. This has taken me so long to do so I am really hoping it works.
My Grandad John Carr was born in 1882, to William and Margaret in Liverpool. These docs say 1884 but I don't know why, I know for sure that they are him though. He joined the Merchant Navy i think back in 1903 when my Nan was a few months old. In 1922 he was working as a stage hand on Wallasey Ferries on 'Royal Daffodil' when a woman jumped into the Mersey to kill herself. He dived in and tried to save her but she struggled that much he nearly failed. He was awarded a Silver Medal by the Humane Society for saving her life. He also received a Bronze medal from the RSPCA for Animal Life Saving in 1925. I have the newspaper articles pertaining to these.
I am just hoping someone can help me with these documents. I have no one left in family to help me now. He was still working as a stage hand in the 1939 electrol roll even though aged 57. I don't know when he retired. My nan used to tell me he went away for a couple of months at a time and always brought her back a present. I would love to know where he travelled to.
Thank you everyone, I really appreciate the help.
