Martin Flanagan was 39782, West Riding Regiment

John Martin Flanagan was 202381, Rifle Brigade. Died in 1926.

Both 16 Warder Street?

Were they brothers?

Possibly the Father,

Father named as John on Martin's army records, named as Martin, 1911 census.

Thanks for your replies.
Martin b1899 was his son and died 1918 in France, His father was also a soldier and we know his name was Martin also. Maybe he called himself John Martin. Can you tell from the records what regiment he was in so I can try to trace him. Also can't find that death in 1926, where was it registered as his wife was still living at the Warder Street address.
Thanks

John Flanagan 202381 was in 20th Battalion (Territorial Force) of the Rifle Brigade. Previous service number 292. His army papers seem not to have survived. The medal roll shows that he served in the "East Africa, Nyasaland and Northern Rhodesia" theatre of war from 17/1/1916 to 18/3/1916 and then "South West Africa" until 10/2/19. So that's why he was an absent voter in 1918!

Fold 3 (for which I don't have a sub) has pension records and index cards for him, some as John Martin Flanagan, which apparently indicate that he died on 11 Jul 1926.

I'll do some more digging.

Thank you for the information and your time.
It all looks good. I suspected he died around that date but couldn't find his death as Martin. He is registered as Martin on his children's birth certificates but maybe he was know locally as John.
As soon as this Coronavirus lockdown is over I'll send for the death certificate and try to confirm whether it is him or not and try to get a look at the pension records. In the meantime any other information would be great.
Thank you so, so much!

If you are willing to wait, I believe the GRO is still at work and will supply certificates albeit slower than usual. Even at the date you are looking, you can order a .pdf file at a much cheaper price of £7 than ordering from a local office.

Just to let you know that I was successful in getting the 1926 death pdf for John Martin Flanagan and it was correct. The informant was his wife Mary Ann at the Warder Street address. The only mystery now is why the name change. I will try to find some military records now.
Thanks once again to all who replied.
