Looking for information on a person from some medals in my friends possession to enable him to send them to relatives rather than a museum.

Name on the medals is:
Private J B Salmon
Somerset Light Infantry
Service number looks like 266651 but the last digit could be wrong, possibly another 6
Trying to get a better photo

Apologies if this is not allowed but I know the military peeps on here are very knowledgeable
Thanks
Paul

Between 1880-1900

John Bernard Salmon, Tendering, Essex, 4a 539, 1891

John Bernard Salmon, St Columb, Cornwall, 5c 83, 1899

The lower John would not have reached legal fighting age until about 1917, need to work out when the service numbers were handed out?

is year of death known?

It appears it's the John, born 1899, died, 1959.

Came across photo's and active tree on Anc, tree owner logged in recently.

Would you like me to make the tree owner aware of this forum and thread?

Thank you so much.
I’ve sent my friend the info you found and contacted the tree owner.
I’m hoping there is a descendant that will be chuffed to bits to have his medals.

Many many thanks.

Quick update.
The gentleman has no direct living relatives 😢
He had a brother and two sisters all of whom had no issue.
I think the medals will end up in a museum though.

He also has a long service medal for a special constable,
Walter Wildash
Issued in 1929 and has a service bar for 1914-1918.
I seem to remember a Police specialist on here.

Very sad that there are no relatives, at least he was remembered on here, thank your friend for the efforts he's made.
