My great uncle, William A Barker was killed in France in September 1916. I believe all soldiers from Liverpool are commemorated in the Town Hall. However, when my aunt ( his niece ) went to look she couldn't locate his name and at the time there was no-one to ask. Is there any sort of plan or key to help find him?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Roll of Honour Liverpool Town Hall
The layout of the names is very confusing, so it is not surprising that your aunt could not find it.
There are two soldiers named Barker on one panel identified by the Town Hall as "12 Left". One is Pte W Barker, King's Shropshire Light Infantry, the other Pte W A Barker, Royal Engineers.
I have photos of this panel and could send you a rough plan of the Hall of Remembrance. It would be best by email, so perhaps you could send me your e-address by private message.

ADDED:
Was your great-uncle in 96th Field Company, Royal Engineers, and remembered on the Loos Memorial to the Missing?
The Town Hall Roll of Honour has no dates, service numbers nor many details of units etc.

Re: Roll of Honour Liverpool Town Hall
Barbara has confirmed that her gt-uncle was in 96th Field Company, RE.
For general information, for a few years the Town Hall had a fairly simple online database by which we could find out if a name was recorded in the Roll of Honour. It is currently out of action but is being overhauled and will be replaced when a new search system is installed.

Many thanks to Daggers for passing on a plan and a photo of the relevant panel. They will be winging their way to my aunt any minute now.

Re: Roll of Honour Liverpool Town Hall
I went in last year on the open week, had the names, panel numbers and a guy who works there, still couldn't find a couple of names.
The layout is past confusing, had one that was left, and one that was right, they were next to each other.

Yeah Mary. That might also explain the email I managed to send to daggers, even though I didn't know his email address.
