Hi. Has anyone got any info on the 4th Regiment Royal Irish Dragoon Guards.
Whatever i try and search on Ancestry it gives me same info,:- Lemuel Charlton's Service, Pension Admission and buriel. I am aiming to try and get wife and children information.
Is the Preston barracks still open? Cheers carol

Re: Military
I wonder if Fulwood might be of any help, there is a Museum and I've heard that they are helpful if they are able.

Re: Military
I suggest you try the museum at York, which is for various regiments of Dragoons which have been amalgamated over the years. Google '4th Dragoon Guards' and you will find many references, including the Museum's web site.
As your man was a warrant officer (Troop Sergeant Major) there is probably a better chance of finding something about him than for a private or trooper.
Daggers
Back again to add that there is a public tree on Ancestry - Daniel Leonard's family tree, which includes Lemuel Charlton with images of two documents relating to his later life as a Chelsea Pensioner. This does not mean that he lived at Chelsea Hospital, but was paid a pension as an out-pensioner.
The tree mentions a daughter, Eliza, born about 1800, but with no details of a marriage. Lemuel was living in Preston when granted the pension in 1826 (his reason for admission was 'worn out' after 24 years' service) but he died and was buried at Braddan, Isle of Man, in 1846.
His trade or occupation was entered as 'musician' but I do not know if that meant he was in an army band, or his trade when he joined up.
There is another document on Findmypast but it does not throw any more light on his private life.

Re: Military
Mary and daggers, Thank you. I do not have that document Mary, where may I find this to print out?
daggers. I have researched the dragoon guards a bit, I think I will try Fulwood rather than York first, as I can drive to Fulwood.
The lady you mentioned is a relative of mine whom I am in contact with, she has put on ancestry the info I have in my possession,I am not certain Lemuel is related to our family so I won't add him to my tree yet. I really need to know if he is the father of Eliza Charlton ( mentioned in my other post W.O.E engine). Maybe Fulwood may have his family information, I keep clutching at straws hoping I find what I am looking for.
Once again this forum never fails me. Cheers Carol
