John Dring

Post by lin »

Hi
I am trying to find some information on John Dring mainly his service number. It is for a relative of mine who needs this. I have his birth certificate and he was born 1st November 1919 in Liverpool. I have sent for his death certificate and if it is the right one he died in 1980. As far as I know he stayed in the forces after WW11. I took a subscription to Forces War Records last night but there was no trace of him there. Can anyone suggest where else I can look.
Thank you
Lin

Thank you for looking Bertieone but I do not think that is him. He went to live in Blackpool definitely that area after he married for the second time. He was still living there in 1959 as a relative who is still alive went to visit him there. He is not related to me but he came to our house in 1968 and I am sure he was still living in Blackpool then. On his birth certificate it just gives his name as John but on the marriage which I think is him it says John Patrick Dring. They were a Catholic family so don't know if he got christened John Patrick. Not sure that helps.
Thanks again

Lin,

If the service number is needed to get his army records, apparently, as recently posted on here (can't remember by who) it is not needed as long as all the other relevant information is sent.

As he survived the war, there's very little available online to search, name & number.

Thanks Bertieone where would I apply to get this? Would I be able to get it if I'm not related to him? This is for a relative in Canada. If I can't do it I'm sure they could apply from there as they are blood relatives. I have only ever searched the first world war and found a few medals that members of the family received. Not done much on military
Thanks again

Do you think he may have been injured whilst serving and would it have been in the Liverpool area? If so Katie may find him in her database.

I have a entry in my newspaper index for Craftsman John Dring, his mothers home address was 27, Tintern Street, Walton. It does not state his age. WW2 records as Bertieone says you have to apply at the MOD. There are casualty lists available for WW2 on FMP. Just checked 1939 this John was born 1914.

Hi Thanks to Bertieone, Katie and Mary. That is him. Sarah and Joseph are his parents and they did live in Huyton. Mary Moore is actually my mum so I know that is all correct. He is not my dad as i was to my mums second marriage but it's his son in Canada that needs this information. I would love to see his picture if you could send it to me Katie and I will get a copy to my brother. Thanks for all your help.
