Wondering if you can tell me where I might locate service records for world war 1, 1st liverpool regiment.
looking for -
Private 26393 Roy Arthur Spenser Mayo Goddard, d. 14 july 1916 6th field ambulance france.

I have been unable to locate his records by his service no. and wondered if there might be local liverpool archive which might hold a record.

Unfortunately not all records have survived, I've tried to find his Service Records too but unfortunately without success. I'm sure you already have this entry on the CWGC site http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casua ... 0A%20S%20M

you could try that to see if he could help, also about September each year there is a Military Day at the Museum at the waterfront, where a number of military experts are on hand to respond to questions, particularly about the Kings Liverpool Regiment.

Appreciate your help. I can only find his medal card.
Roy was born Australia, where I am located.
He was a crewman on a merchant ship in England when war broke out, so joined the British Expeditionary Force in England. Was severely wounded and hospitalised and sent back to England to recover. He had not long gone back to the front with 1st Liverpool regiment, when he was mortally wounded in france on 14th July 1916. Buried British Cemetery, Calais.

thanks mary, I have also emailed the museum and have received a response from them, as I am in Australia it is a little difficult to get here for the open day.
I have been in contact with commonwealth war graves commission, and they were able to tell me where he fell, and was reburied. but apparently no service records for him have survived.
