I came across a Roll of Honour notice in the Liverpool Echo 4/8/1917 for a Private Ottowell Bradley KIA 30th-July-1916. I don't have a Ottowell Bradley.

I located his birth

Births Mar 1876
BRADLEY Ottowell Hugh C W.Derby 8b 282

And I located him on the 1881

1891

In 1901 he marries Laura Richards, I could not trace him on the 1911, however Ottowell and Laura had one son called Waldron and a search for him gave me:-

149, Spencer Street

James Bradley Lodger 34yrs Tailor Born Dublin
Laura Bradley Wife 30? married 9 years Born Birkenhead
Waldron Bradley Son 6 Born, Liverpool.

I do have a James Bradley in my index

Would you agree that James Bradley apart from his place of birth being Dublin and Ottowell Hugh Claude Bradley are the same. Thanks for any help.

I can't think of any other scenario - wonder if he had something to hide so changed his identity?

I would say they are one and the same - If it had been changed on enlistment I would have suggested Ottowell - shortened to Otto?- sounds a bit German but as you've shown he changed it before that... who knows, maybe he just didn't like having an unusual name!
