Frank Ellis - King's Liverpool Regiment

Hi everyone. Just a little bit of info about myself. As you can see by my profile name, my interest lies in researching The Royal Munster Fusiliers in which i had 2 Great Grandfathers. A few years ago when i rediscovered one of their medal groups, there was one medal missing from the group. The medal in question was The British War Medal. To complete the medal group before remounting i decided that rather than buy a replica i would go about buying a real medal that had been issued to a real soldier and therefore i would, in a way be also remembering a soldier who may otherwise have been forgotten. At my local monthly Medal Fair i decided to buy a medal which belonged to a Frank Ellis of The King's Liverpool Regiment. It now takes pride of place alongside my Great Grandfather's medals.
The one thing that i always intended to do was to return the medal to it's rightful place with Frank's family if i ever got the chance to do so. Obviously i have more info on Frank but would need to be happy with handing Frank's medal to the right person if ever they came forward. The only condition i would have is that i would get a similar medal in return. One that was awarded to a Munster Fusilier would be my preference.
Hopefully someone on here will know who Frank was and share some of Frank's life story with me before i give up his medal.
Thank you. Adrian

Hi Adrian and welcome to the forum.
We have tried to collect a few suggestions for searching for living people here
http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154
If you would like our help perhaps you would care to share the details of his Regiment Number if you have it and any other details from the CWGC site that might help to ascertain his family.

Hi Mary. Thanks for your reply. Frank's Regimental Number was 266067 and he survived the war and was discharged on the 15th of February 1919. He may have originally come from Blackpool but i'm not sure of this.

I do not want to pour cold water on your plan, but there were over 20 battalions of the King's Liverpool Regiment in WW1, and even allowing for the fact that some did not serve overseas (and so did not qualify for medals), at over 800 men per battalion, that is very big odds against finding one of the family. Also, as you suggest, those who served in KLR did not necessarily come from Liverpool.
I hope I am wrong!

His full name was Frank Raphael Ellis,
should narrow it down a bit.

Frank Raphael Ernest Ellis died in 1943 Probate to his wife Murial Estella Ellis. Left quite a lot of pennies. He also appears in Passenger lists in and out of England.
If this is the correct one that is?

According to the discharge papers when Frank enlisted in 1914 he was 41 years old and he was born in Canterbury, Kent(correct me if I am wrong) Now Frank Raphael Ernest Ellis was born in 1890 in Yorkshire, however residing with the family in 1901 is Frank William East Ellis, born Canterbury, Kent 1873/72????
Is it possible a porkie pie has been told here?
Opinions please

Again, according to the tree, his mother was Ida, though there is no mention of service in the Kings, etc,
of course they might not be aware of it, for those who can view.

I think it's this man who served in the King's Liverpool Regiment. All the evidence points to it?
He was a Palmist according to the Census? He may have chose Raphael as his stage name, and they were in Blackpool??

Related anyway, so contact with the tree holder on Anc would be a start for Adrian.

Thank you all for your input . I've followed most of the leads and have connected with the lady who has Frank Raphael Ellis (who went to Honduras) on her tree. I'm pretty sure at this stage that this is not my Frank Ellis. I've emailed her again to clarify a few details and i await her reply. I'll let you know what happens.
Regards. Adrian

Shouldn't there be his regimental number marked on the edge of the medal? that might help with identification.
