Hi Everyone

I don't know much about my Dad. He was born 9th Oct 1900 William Joseph Cross in West Derby Liverpool,.

Something in the back of my mind tells me I have seen a photo of him in a kilt and that he was in the Liverpool Scottish but how can I find out more.

I presume he was too young for WW1 but what would he have been eligible for in WW2 being 39 years old ?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated :o :D

Your dad is mentioned on a family tree on Ancestry. It might be worth contacting the tree owner to see if they have any more information.
Hope this helps
Barbara

Hi,
Your dad could have been in the military in WW1. There are many instances of 16/17 year-olds volunteering in a flush of patriotism and 'adventure'.

I'm on Ancestry and its possibly my tree or any of a few others I've seen. :)

According to Wikapedia
Conscription continued until mid 1919 in the First World so he could have easily been called up in 1918 when he reached 18 without falsifying his age.

By 1942 conscription was for men aged 18 - 51

So yes he could have served in both wars.

The Liverpool Scottish Museum Trust are very helpful, their website is http://www.liverpoolscottish.org.uk/~liverpo4/

and if you can get to the Museum of Liverpool for the Family History Day on 28th Sept they will be there to help people with their Liverpool Scottish enquiries.
