I cant see a medal card for a James Hodson who would be with Liverpool Scottish. Hopefully Daggers will be able to advise.
His name is James Hodson born Hesketh Bank Tarleton nr Preston.

Found Pension Records for a James Hodson of Southport, but his wife is Annie of 22 Ulster Road, Old Swan, Liverpool, with six children, no details of them, but it appears he joined in 1914, and was 29 years 5 days on 13 September, 1914. He was in the 8th Service Battalion South Lancashire Regiment, so obviously the wrong man.

For more detail, I think this could be James in the 1910+1...
Address: Moss Lane, Hesketh Bank, Preston, Lancashire
HODSON, James Son 14 1897 Farmer's son working on farm - Hesketh Moss, Lancashire.
8 siblings.
His age looks to fit with his youthful appearance in the photo.

Thank you dickiesam. Yes, this is my grandfather. He was working with his father, John Hodson on the Moss. I have not been able to find any military records of him so far.
Sorry I had not replied before now, its been really busy here with everyone preparing for the Bank Holiday. That is what happens when you live in Wales.
