I have found a number of interesting items through Anc. that I would like to be able to understand further but cannot find any explanation of some of the codes used against the "Where Serving" column ?
There are two,sometimes three digits, and on occasion a lower case character.
I would assume that they represent ships or bases and the country that each is in but I dont seem able to find any way of decoding them,can anyone help explain them please ?

At the beginning of the book it says to see "Navy List" for abbreviations.

If you go to the back of the book and then scroll forward a page or two you will come to a heading "Ships and Officers". I believe this is the list that the numbers refer to.

example - 465a SPITEFUL, 6. Twin screw torpedo boat destroyer
365 tons IHP (6200 FD)
beneath is a list of named Commander, Sub Lieut, Engineer and Gunner

I don't have the book, but on Ancestry you can choose to view the pages by number.

Dooooh ! After printing a few of the 'finds' it was staring me in the face ?

Did as you suggested then realised that those pages were also part of the collected 'finds' from Anc..,they just needed cross referencing.

Now just need to find the service logs of the particular ships to discover their locations late 19th C
