William Sutton Arrowsmith - WW1

The first casualty for the 9th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment in the Great War was William Sutton Arrowsmith. He had enlisted was badly wounded on the day war broke out and went to France on 12th March, 1915 in the original deployment of the 9th King's to France. The battalion was divided into companies and introduced to life in the trenches by being attached to experienced battalions. On the first few days in the front line, William was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was probably wounded by the explosion of a shell on 8th April.

He was evacuated to a hospital on the French coast at Boulogne, where he died on 27th April.

I have all of the information from Ancestry, including his service record, but would be very interested to know if there are any other sources of information or perhaps even a photograph of him. Are the newspaper microfilms currently available at the Record Office in Liverpool?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Katie,

What is the date for the obituary? Is it accessible at the Record Office at the moment? It's a long time since I last visited.
