A relative who died in December 1896 in Liverpool has "army pensioner" designated as his occupation on his death certificate. Is there any way of tracing how his pension may have been paid? He may have returned from Canada within the previous ten years after serving with the Royal Canadian Rifles until 1866.

Thanks for the response. I have a good set of records form the NA but am now trying to tie down the last part of his career to see if a pension was actually paid in Liverpool.

Findmypast has an online database of the recipients of the Army pensions which were administered by the Royal Chelsea Hospital. If your relative is in the database as a recipient he would have served in the British Army.
