Evan Jones - WW1

Another difficult-to-research name :-(

Evan Jones was a Territorial soldier, enlisting into the 9th King's Liverpool Regt in April, 1913, so he was probably born before 1897. He reached the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Military Medal around October, 1916. I know that he survived the war.

As he was a pre-war Territorial it is highly likely that he lived in, or near, the Everton district.

I have found a candidate in the 1911 Census living at 12, Brooks Terrace, Everton Road with his parents, James and Jane Jones. But, I would like to confirm who Sgt Evan Jones was.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ken, forgive me as I know virtually nothing about military matters, but having searched the resources available to me I haven't discovered an Evan Jones who enlisted in 1913, most seem to have a date of 1914. Can you give us more details where you came across this man please.

Hi Mary,

I have looked on Ancestry and found only his Medal Index Card - no service papers, unfortunately.
He is mentioned in the Battalion History and other documents as having been awarded the Military Medal and the London Gazette gives the date of the promulgation of the award as October, 1916.

I am hoping that there is some mention of him in local records, newspapers, etc.

There is no picture of him in the local press. If I see anything I will let you know.
