Nothing ever straightforward in your family Tina It must have been an emotional time for your aunt and she would have been very proud of him.

Ken, just in case you come across it, the name is Ralph Marshall Lunt who we already know a fair amount about, also there are posts about him on the Great War forum which brought to light that he had won the Croix de Guerre in 1918. The nice guys on that forum have also given my cousin references for some documents at the National Archives, so hopefully next month she will visit and see what can be discovered there.
As I say we have a lot on the family so don't need any more in that direction, and our main interest at the moment is the why he was awarded it.
Thanks for your interest.

Spot on about my mob Mary
After my Mum died, my bro found a pair of kiddies Dutch clogs at the back of the gas cupboard & remembered me playing with them when I was little. He brought them over to Oz for me, Uncle Dickie got them in Holland 1941. So grateful to be able to pass them onto my grandees.
Have a GR8 Sunday everyone.
23c today and about bluddy time too
