Some of my family have turned up some WW 2 Military medals which belonged to a couple of family members but who we don't know at the moment. If we can find out what they are for or represent this will narrow it down. So if anyone out there can enlighten me further these are the medals in question :-
The 1939 - 45 Star
Atlantic Star
Africa Star
Pacific Star
Italy Star
George Vi medal.

Military medals.

Re: Military medals.
The Atlantic and Pacific Stars might belong to a seafarer, and the Africa and Italy to a soldier, possibly in 8th Army. The 39-45 could be for either.

Re: Military medals.
The Atlantic Star was also issued to RAF Coastal Command and Fleet Air Arm crew who protected the convoys or were on anti-submarine duties. I wouldn't be surprised if the same applied to the Pacific Star although I don't think either Air Service were operating out there during WW2.

Re: Military medals.
We have now sorted out what all the medals are for, they all belong to my uncle and cover all his WW2 wartime service in the merchant navy. He was in all the theatres of the war and beyond but the one medal we haven't sorted and why he received it is the George medal. This apparently is awarded for gallantry we believe but there must be a record somewhere, also I'm not sure if this is normally awarded to civilians rather than military. Any help would be appreciated.
