WW1 lookup request

Post by LukeJ »

Hi

I believe 224k ww1 records have been added online. I was wondering if anyone who had access to these could help me look up a record which could be my grandfather? (It will be awhile till I can use a library)

I know he was wounded in battle and needed a relative to get sent home, before being sent back over to France or belgium. His name is Henry Jones born 1898 Liverpool (probably kings I don't have a regiment nimber). There was a match on a search on the above link which could be him, but as its a common name is also highly likely to be someone else. I haven't been able to find any of his records as of yet.

Thanks, Luke

Looking through my database of soldiers wounded called Henry Jones from Liverpool, there is this one

3rd Nov 1917
Cheshire Regiment
Private Henry Jones
number 30095
Liverpool
Wounded.

the above also appears in the medical records in 1918 as having trench fever he is recorded as being aged 18yrs which puts his birth year as 1898. His religion is recorded as Roman Catholic.

Service records survive for the above. His NOK is recorded as Margaret Jones, 5th Court, 1st House Lad Lane, Regley or Begley Street, Liverpool. His service records give his year of birth as 1896.

I also have the following.

1st June 1918
King's Liverpool Regiment
Private
Henry Jones
Liverpool
Wounded.

There is a service record for the above which gives his birth year as 1898, however there is no address or NOK recorded on this.

He suffered a GSW to the leg.

Worth a follow up. He was awarded SWB. It may be worth while checking the records on Ancestry to see if there are any more pages for his Service Record.

Thanks Bertieone and Katie,
I've looked through them all and I don't think
any of those is a match. The next of kin would have probably been a Bridget Jones of Shakespeare st, Everton and religion probably church of england.
But thanks so much for looking through. I will try and get a regiment number and come back with any more information such as injuries. I think like a lot of veterans he never spoke about his past so my dad and uncles don't know much about him.
