Correct age, job within the railway business.
He can't declare he was a widower, he wasn't, marriage wasn't dissolved and he certainly couldn't declare he was committing bigamy, bachelor being the only option remaining.
If the question wasn't asked about his father's status and it wasn't always asked, deceased couldn't be entered.
Is father's occupation correct?

No in the marriage to my G/mother his father was a farm labourer and the marriage to Ada his father was a builder....his age in 1917 when he married first was down as 28.....then in the 1922 marriage he is down as 29 years old!?Bertieone wrote:Correct age, job within the railway business.

Being 28 in 1917 as you know doesn't give a birth date of 1893.
The William Foxley born to William & Charlotte was born 1893, in 1911 he was living with his mother Charlotte and James Yates, William is recorded as Loco fitter, apprentice.
The UK railway employment records have an apprentice,, William Foxley, on a months trial, birth date, 18/4/1893. This is the same William Foxley who married Ada Martha in 1922.

There's another William Foxley in the UK Railway Employment records, a Labourer, birth date, 18/5/1889.
He married Eveline Minshall, 1913, Nantwich. Still together 1939?
Dismiss him.

It's very confusing I might get in touch with The records office in Crewe after the bank holiday....Charlotte and James Yates got married in 1904 in Nantwich...I don't think I am going to get to the bottom of it all...

Never give up, little things slot into place bit by bit and then suddenly it all comes together, but often needs patience, you could be told by every one of us that sometimes it took a number of years to get a result for a problem and then suddenly the right clue came along.

The William Foxley, 18/4/93 and all associated with him, William & Charlotte, Ada Martha, etc, need to be put to one side.
This can't be the same person who married Mary Edith in 1917, providing the information on that marriage certificate was given correctly, for now we have to assume it was.
An age of 28 on the marriage cert gives a birth approx. 1889,
Births registered in England & Wales, 1889 +/-2
FOXLEY, WILLIAM / MILLINGTON... Father, John
GRO Reference: 1887 D Quarter in NORTHWICH Volume 08A Page 257
FOXLEY, WILLIAM / DICKINSON... Father,Thomas
GRO Reference: 1889 J Quarter in NANTWICH Volume 08A Page 383
FOXLEY, WILLIAM / MCDONELL... Father, William, marriage, Wigton???
GRO Reference: 1889 S Quarter in MIDDLESBROUGH Volume 09D Page 599
Possible death of this child, aged 8, Middlesborough, 1897.
FOXLEY, WILLIAM / WILLIAMS
GRO Reference: 1890 J Quarter in LIVERPOOL Volume 08B Page 117
FOXLEY, WILLIAM / MAWDSLEY... Father, Peter
GRO Reference: 1890 D Quarter in NORTHWICH Volume 08A Page 234
To narrow it down further, who had a Father, William?
Edited to add likely Fathers,

Re: William Foxley..South Wales Borderers 1916 ?.
I can't make progress on the William Foxley 1890 birth, mothers maiden name, Williams.
There doesn't appear to be a Foxley/Williams marriage, perhaps no marriage took place and used the fathers name or married as a widow.
Between 1880 and 1900, no other children were born in the Liverpool area, Foxley/Williams combination, may suggest no marriage or further relationship?
"3rd (Reserve) Battalion, South Wales Borderers.
August 1914 : in Brecon. A training unit, it remained in UK throughout the war. Moved on 8 August 1914 to Pembroke Dock. A detachment was sent between November 1914 and March 1915 to Edinburgh. Moved in June 1915 to Hightown near Liverpool for duty as part of Mersey Garrison"
Questions for the Brains Trust.
Is it likely the South Wales Borderers recruited locally?
Was there a Railway Carriage Works, etc. local to Liverpool?

Re: William Foxley..South Wales Borderers 1916 ?.
There could well have been a carriage works in Liverpool....but most definitely would have been in Crewe...my grandmother was living in Thornton Road when she met him ...they married at the end of November and my mum was born the 13th June ?? Which meant she was already pregnant with my mum...I am going on the South Wales Borderers site later on to see what I can find out...Bertieone wrote:I can't make progress on the William Foxley 1890 birth, mothers maiden name, Williams.
