Re: Captain Thomas Walker
Assuming he was a Sea Captain as opposed to Army,
How is this known, marriage cert, birth cert?
Jane was born about 1838, if Thomas was born at a similar time, there are many deaths on land between 1875 and 1881 and no way of knowing conclusively.
Can a kind soul check Deaths at Sea please?

Re: Captain Thomas Walker
Not easy as the name is not uncommon apparently amongst seamen, quite a number of which died within that time frame. So far none named as being Captain, but I'm looking at those who sailed out of Liverpool.
13 December, Liverpool, Anne Royden, 13581, Thomas N Walker, Rating On Board M, age 30, Died 1.11.73, St Bees, Disease of the Stomach, Amount due to the estate £13.11.6, Effects taken on shore by mistake, Sent to Board of Trade 27 December, Remarks Discharged Prior to Death.
24 October, Liverpool, Palawan, 63200, India, Tom D Walker, 2nd Mate, age 20, 26.3.74 Calcutta, Cholera, Estate in Debt, Effects Sup't, Account sent to Board of Trade 26 October.
Back in Liverpool, as the family appear to be RC I checked Ford but the only one within that time frame doesn't feel like him.
9 October 1874 Thomas Walker, Residence Liverpool Workhouse, 48 years, Grave SJ 761.
The Workhouse residence doesn't make me worry as people went there for the doctor, but SJ761 appears to be a general grave and I would have thought a Captain might have had a private grave.
A couple of things to check, at the Liverpool Record Office there is a set of microfiche listing Sea Captains.
I would also have expected an obituary in the newspaper. If you aren't a member of the Lancashire library, join online and use their digitized newspaper search on their site. Not forgetting an obit for his wife when she died as I discovered one of mine had been a Captain as he was mentioned in it.

Re: Captain Thomas Walker
thank you so much, needless to say I have committed the mortal sin of going off at tangents, have a lot about his wife Jane Flynn as she is on my direct line, her brother was my grt grandfather but looking as we do at all the different and varied lines when you hit a brick wall and cant seem to get any further, but this has been really helpful, thank you. To the best of my knowledge he was a sea captain xxxxxxxxxx

But you could do with confirming it, begin with my couple of suggestions.margaretMBE wrote:To the best of my knowledge he was a sea captain
