This sailor was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, but lost his life when the trawler in which he was wireless operator was mined in the North Sea in 1917.
His name is on the Liverpool Town Hall roll of honour and the Royal Navy memorial at Plymouth but there are no family details on his War Graves Commission entry.
The Naval Medals & Awards Roll gives his year of birth as 1887. He may have been a merchant seasman pre-war, as he was in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Can anyone please throw any light on his life?

Re: Arthur John Collins, D.S.M., WW1 victim
Thank you, Bert, for the kick-off. I burned a bit of oil last night and found the navy record for Collins, as well as his baptism in Liverpool. The RN record shows his parents were in Scorton, Lancaster when he joined up in 1915, and this ties up with his name on that local memorial.
His wife appears to have re-married after his death and moved to Ireland.
I can now be sure that we have the right man, and his local links, on the Town Hall roll of honour.
