We'd love it if you could be persuaded to post a copy of the photograph so that we could see.

Hi Lemon,
Mary is suggesting you post the photo of him in the Red, Dress Uniform.
May help in finding the regiment.

When things settle back to normal and your mind comes back to the forum, here's how to post an image here.
While you can't 'attach' images to a post you can 'insert' them into your message. This is how to use Photobucket to do that..
1) If you are not already a member click on http://photobucket.com/ or paste it into your browser and join the site. Photobucket is a free image hosting website.
2) Scan the relevant document in highest resolution you can manage. Make sure it is a reasonable size and is correctly orientated [not sideways or upside down!]. You should crop the image to show only the part that is being queried in the case of a name, date or signature. If you don't have a cropping utility there is one on the Photobucket site.
3) Follow the on-screen instruction to upload your scan image to the site. Save the image to your 'Album'. If you need to work on the image there is a Media Options box on the right of screen. Select the required option and don't forget to Save when you have finished.
When you run the mouse over your finished image a short drop-down menu [Links to share this photo] will open on the right. Left-click on the IMG option in that menu. The URL box will turn yellow, with the word Copied.
4) Now go to the 'Post a reply' box on the forum topic or create a new Topic if necessary. Write your message then page down a line. Place the cursor at the left of the message window, right-click the mouse and select Paste. This will enable you to paste the URL that you copied from Photobucket into your message. The image will not immediately appear. It comes up when you click Preview before you submit your message or click Submit to post the message.

The 1901 shows father Robert Potter to be a Master of a ferry boat, aka ship's Captain. Probably Wallasey/Seacombe/New Brighton to Pier Head, Liverpool.p.s . his father did work on Wallasey ferries as master ? could he be in merchant shipping ? but he is listed as cabinet maker .
