Medal discovered amongst family property

Post by MaryA »

Hi, don't know if we have enough information here for anybody to make any suggestions about help.

A Royal Navy medal has been found amongst some items belonging to a relative. On the back it says

K.25221
J.GATES
STO.2.R.N

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what this might all mean. Meantime I'll be trying to look into whether a J. Gates fits into the family anywhere.

Gates' rank was probably Stoker, second class, Royal Navy. The letter K before his number will mean something, but not to me!

Well thank you so much everybody, I wouldn't have known how to search for that, but knew I'd find help here ;)

Now to investigate how Jonathan fits into this family, it certainly helps to have a christian name to work with.
