Norris Green Locket Mystery

I am not sure whether this is the best place to post this enquiry and would welcome any advice about where better to post it.
A relative of mine worked for the council and visited a house in Norris Green in the late 1960s or early 70s following the death of the occupant and the removal of her property. The house was next to St. Theresa's Church on the street at the side of the church. Various items had been left in the house including a number of religious statues which lead my relative to think there may have been a link to the church. Whilst ther my relative found a locket containing photographs of a man and a woman. As the house was to be cleared he took this in the hope of contacting a family member of the lady who had died.

If someone can embed the actual image I would be grateful. I will try to take a higher resolution image.
My relative had no luck tracing a family member and mentioned it to a friend of his, Simon Mahon, who was the local MP. Simon contacted the Liverpool Echo and they ran a story about this. After this Simon was warned off by the Liverpool Echo after an influential person had contacted them and told them not to pursue the story. After this my relative was approached by a national newspaper but didn't get involved following the warning.
My relative has always wondered what the story was behind the locket and hoped to pass it on to a relative of those in the pictures.
As far as I can see the cap badge in the photo is from the South Staffordshire regiment. Could anyone possibly date the uniform?
Does anyone know if the Liverpool Echo archives from this time are available on line, or if anyone has any ideas about how to pursue this further I would be very grateful.
Regards
Steve Mallon
