If you transcribe parish registers for FreeReg can you offer lookups from your own data or is that copyrighted because obviously you don't own the parish registers........

Your transcription is your own copyright, which is why we always suggest your replies on here are "type what you see".

How do you mean Mary?

You may notice that sometimes people have obviously copied and pasted such as
Name: Thomas Lunt
Age: 53
Estimated birth year: 1808
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Ellen Lunt
Gender: Male
Where born: West Derby, Lancashire, England
Civil Parish: West Derby
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
View image
Registration district: West Derby
Sub-registration district: West Derby
ED, institution, or vessel: 46e
Neighbors: View others on page
This contravenes copyright as it is obvious pinching it from another site, besides which, it doesn't make sense as so many fields are empty or don't lead anywhere, ie the "View image" etc.
Whereas when you type it yourself you create your own copyright, plus it is so much more informative eg
Deys Lane, West Derby
Thomas Lunt Head M 53 Coard Wainer Lancashire West Derby
Ellen Lunt Wife M 64 Lancashire Knowsley
RG 9; Piece: 2735; Folio: 86; Page: 15
