Discrepancies between death certs & headstone

I had always assumed the date of death on a headstone would be accurate, but no; visiting a local church graveyard where generations of my husband's family are buried, I decided to take some pics of the headstones, even though I had looked at them many times before.
I uploaded the pics in order to attach them to my family tree programme, at the same time I dug out the death certificates for the two folk on one particular headstone.....................found discrepancies as follows:-

Richard - death cert. date 23rd December 1955 ---------headstone date 24th December.

Martha - death cert. date 22nd January 1944................headstone date 26th January.

Not sure it matters but it shows errors do happen

Strange perhaps memory is iffy when emotional, thinking that headstones are usually added a couple of months after the burial.

One of my chaps has 26, 28 AND 29 December 1865 as his date of death from various sources. I usually take the middle one, as that is on the death cert.

I have a couple of instances of this, where the date on the headstone is different to other records.
