I have just found a new technique for tracing a living person! We used to get Christmas cards from a first cousin who has lived in S. America most of her life, married and with a grown up family, but the cards dried up a couple of years ago. Nobody here in UK knew if she was still alive. I tried the consulate but got nothing more than an acknowledgement with no follow-up. I then remembered that when last in this country she told us that she was very involved with a church. I googled ‘English church Santiago’, found a likely site and emailed. Bingo! The church secretary replied at once and said yes, she knew her, but my cousin [who is 91] has Alzheimer’s and is being looked after by her daughter and family. A mixed result. This may not work in every case but might be worth a shot where enough is known.

Anything is worth giving a go, well done on a great result, although sad that she is unable to help with any memories, I hope she passed on some stories to the daughter who may continue a liaison with you.
