Ancestry have indexed the names of spouses, next-of-kin, and other family members in their personnel records.

This could prove useful as spouses were often shown under their maiden names, and sometimes you may know the name of a child. Could help to identify one soldier when there might be a few with the same name - or if their name has been mistranscribed.

Lets hope Anc will improve on what they are trying to achieve, within my Uncle's records for example, there's mention of his mother on a few occasions, his father, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Anc have managed to miss them all, further checks of many other soldiers also reveal family members missed. Early days and it might improve, hopefully it won't discourage anyone from searching through the documents believing there's no family members to be found.

That's a shame, but I hope they are continuing their work on these records, the extra field would be so useful.

I agree Bert, always suggest looking at the original image, whether on censuses, PR's military documents or any other, you just never know what is on there when there is no clue in the indexes.
