Just to let you all know that a number of us from the Society host a Help Desk at the Liverpool Record Office on Tuesday afternoons between 1.30 and 4.00. In addition to this I sometimes go earlier on that day to do a bit of research for myself, or even on request by our members. There have been occasions when I have been asked by our Facebook Group members for favours and I have gone to the trouble of looking something up, emailing copies or transcriptions and never received either an acknowledgement, let alone a thank you.
If I am able I would still assist in the future, but would require the reference numbers, exact dates and names etc. of what needed looking up.
This is not an open invitation to inundate me with requests and I do insist on those asking to give me their current Society Membership Number.

Unfortunately a reflection on today's society, a Thank you and manners cost nothing.

And another seconding from me. I find that sort of 'ignorance' maddening.

As one who has just benefited from one of Mary's RO trips I add my thanks and my opinion of 'non-thankers'. [%+@"xxx..."]
I think you may have opened up a hornets' nest by making this offer openly, Mary!

Re: Look ups at the Record Office
As my friends on here understand that I'm not referring to them, and we often do favours for each other (often behind the scenes by means of Speckled Jim), you know that I'm not referring to you, but wanted to bring the matter to the attention of any other of our posters who often think that "skp" would go out of their way to help them.
This tends to happen more often on Facebook and I have got to the point of stipulating now that they must be a Society member, at least the probability is that they have a serious interest in FH research and tend to be grateful when you go out of your way to help.
If any of our posters hint that such a thing might happen, feel free to point them to this message.

Re: Look ups at the Record Office
I couldn't agree more - it's infuriating when you kindly look something up and you never get a thank you.
I often think that people who have never been to a record office or local history centre have no idea of what is involved to look things up.
