Execution of a will

Can anyone tell me if there is any time restriction on how long the executors of a will have to complete their duties? I have what appears to be the sale of property by the executors of a will some thirty years after the death of the person involved. This seems a long time.

I don't have an answer, but is it possible the inheritor was a child and that was why the delay?

I also don't have a Yes/No answer but I have come across a case where a will stipulated that a friend of the deceased who had been a live-in companion for many years, should have the use of the deceased's home/property until she herself moved out or died and then the property was to be sold and the proceeds distributed among the deceased's heirs. The friend did not die until 18 years after the deceased.

Thanks Mary and DS, family think it might be a different branch of the same family with same forenames. Will put that one to bed.
