New Find My Past

Post by Hilary »

I opened this up last night having been away a couple of days to find it is now their new improved version.

Not to me - the special collections bit has disappeared and it is really long winded trying to find anything. To find Cheshire baptisms you have to go to BMD and then when you try and locate Cheshire baptisms they are not in the list of Cheshire Records! Eventually I found them under Diocese of Chester. Marriages and Burials are still under Cheshire but not baptisms.

Far more hoops to jump through to find anything, long winded, and slow as you keep having yo load different sections to find the bit you want.

Then to add insult to injury it logged me off 3 times in 20 minutes despite having the keep me signed in box still ticked each time I had to log in.

Ancestry changes are a doddle in comparison FMP doesn't even look the same!

No doubt one will sort it out in time but for the moment grrrrrrrrrrr!

Oh dear, don't like the sound of that, I particularly liked being able to go to the Special Collections for the counties listed on there.

Bound to be bugs on the new site and crits about the changes. I personally don't like the new setup. Maybe too long with the old one.

But, the 'old' site is still here, at least for a while....

I haven't been on for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure I'm going to like what I find, judging by the above feedback.

Just found something interesting. I was on the ipad last night when I got the new FMP. On that I can't see the old FMP. Now on my PC (Windows 7) and lo and behold I have the old FMP complete with Special Collections. Whoopee!!!

Well that's great - but is it just for a while until they change everybody over ..... just like the other buggers did.

I've been in correspondence with FMP about the new site
Special Collections are no longer easily accessed (actually nothing is easy to find)
When you do find them and locate Cheshire Collection the Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials have disappeared.
After a long hunt I found them under Diocese of Chester!

It's very long winded and makes the competition a dream

On my ipad you can only see some images for most it whirrs around saying downloading but nothing happens!

Tonight it has logged me off and guess what I can click sign in until the cows come home but I can't get any box to open up. Well not going via Google which I could yesterday.

I can get in via Safari but why not via Google? I could yesterday!

I haven't had a reply yet about the missing Cheshire Church of England records and have now sent another email asking why I can no longer sign in via Google. I can on my PC.

Apparently their latest is going to be the 1939 National Identity stuff within 2 years. It would be great but whether we'll ever find it on the site or be able to log in who knows?

Fortunately the I'm still on the old site on my PC.

The only problem FMP have managed to solve for me are why I couldn't see the image using Internet Explorer 11 and Google. It turns out there is a problem and they told me how to solve it. It worked!

You are certainly having a bad time of it, hope it all improves soon. Have just heard about the 1939 census they are proposing to upload, it may be good for most of us, shame it hurt your pocket to do it, but as least you have your answers a couple of years earlier. But I can't imagine FMP will keep to the same prices when they have this.

Got a reply that they can't open attachments! I'd written a page and a half word document for them.

So had to copy it into the body of the email and added some more problems ie not being able to sign in via Google on an ipad and images don't appear on an ipad.

Fortunately I am still on the old site on the PC.

I have found a load of comments about the new site and not one is positive!

Aaaargh! Now got the new site on the PC heeeelp!

I have had a response about the Cheshire Collection

I've had a look at your query and I agree that these records are not listed under the Cheshire Collection any more. They are still available though and a search either through the search form when you look at this record set, or through the General Life Events (BMD) - the Statutory BMD and Parish Records are available in one easy to use general search now.

I do believe though that these record sets should be shown in the Cheshire collection so I will pass that on as feedback and ask our developers to have a look at this. I do know that we are still looking at the Parish records and looking at how we can improve this set so this is useful to them.

I also queried this

Another thing I have just found which I think is confusing is if you go to
Armed Forces and Conflict it states
Our extensive military collection will help you locate your ancestors who
served in World War One and World War Two.

However I happen to know that your collection has many records that predate
these 2 conflicts but if I was new to the site I would think there was no
use looking further if I was wanting someone from before that date. I also
know that Second World War Service Records are still with the relevant
force so I won't find them online but others do not know that so they
expect to find them.

Their response
With regard the Armed Forces section. believe that they have put that heading as we do have a number of people who come to the site purely for World War Records. However, I can fully understand your point and I will pass your comments on as feedback.

It will be interesting to see if they do actually do put the Cheshire Collection back together and make their statement on the Armed Forces section clearer.

Now if anyone can find me an easy way to do an address search on the new site for census records I'd love to know. I've tried what they say on their this week's top questions with no success. Address search on Ancestry would do just need to find Cambridge Road Southport in 3 census
