Update on Cork birth certs

Cant believe how speedy the Roscommon gro have been ...Copy cert ordered last Friday morning and an email arrived today and it is the correct one :) :) .....Baby would have been my mothers sister born 11 years before she was ((my late mum knew nothing about this little girl)).... baby sadly died soon after birth.

However it begs the question about the UK gro... why cant we have the same system as Ireland whereby for a small fee a copy cert can be emailed. Moaning Over :? ... just glad to have the cert. :)
Ann
Thanks DS :)

Glad it worked out well. As for the England/Wales GRO... stick-in-the-mud or ostrich-head-in-sand... bureaucratic stubborness where they won't see the wood for the trees. The head person there keeps saying there are 'difficulties'!

The Scotland GRO go even one better than Ireland. You can pay online and immediately download the actual image.

Perhaps there should be a petition but we all know what they do with reams of paper    Then charge us for it

There is an ongoing 'debate' about the GRO's attitude in the fortnightly issue of the Lost Cousins newsletter, compiled and edited by Peter Calver.

This is the most recent issue although the saga isn't in this one:

You will find lots of references in previous issues.

Glad you got the right birth cert and that Ireland were good to you, very speedy I know, even if you are at the office in Dublin you can actually sit and wait for your photocopy.

I've moved this post over in case we have more of a discussion on the English system, which I know failed miserably a couple of years ago when the digitisation project just completely went wrong.

That sounds like a good idea Mary...we need more discussion on this subject. It is so expensive buying certs in the UK. I do realise that the GRO work very hard and when I have had a need to telephone the office they are always extremely helpful. However it appears the powers that be who make the decisions about the costings and ease of access to the general public are so out of touch in this modern age of technology.

Having said all that how I wish I was more proficient in the workings of computers...Hey Ho

I'll stop now... Ann :)
