My 4 x Great Grandfather lived to be 106 and died in March 1889, just short of his 107 birthday. He was still working on the docks as a Salt heaver till he was 100 and people would come to see the phenomenon of a Centenarian working. He was quite a local celebrity and a fund was started to assist him and his only surviving daughter Rose McArdle from going in the Liverpool Workhouse. When he died there was a report in the Daily Post of his funeral and crowds lined the streets on the way to Ford Cemetery. So Terence McArdle 1782-1889 Worthie of a mention.

:D Katie what a fantastic man he must have been and dock work was not easy. I think he deserved all the attention the people around gave him.

I agree, and I don't think we have half the stamina of our ancestors, one of mine - a woman, not a man - was still working the anvil at the age of 103, after taking over her husband's blacksmith's when he died!
