Flax workers

Whilst doing a bit of 'digging' I came across one or two people in the Kirkham area who were involved in the flax industry. This was around the 1860's. Was there a lot of flax grown in West Lancs then? If so what happened to the industry?
Just curious.

Kirkham is in the Fylde rather than West Lancs.

I googled the question a couple of hours ago and thought I'd posted the result but obviously I didn't

Apparently flax was imported from Ireland to Poulton and then there developed a flax industry

If you google flax industry Poulton you'll get lots of info.
