Wrong Birth Certificate

Hi Everyone

New member here and need some advice.

I have just received a birth certificate copy from the Southport Office of the General Register Office. I've had a few from here in the past without a problem but this one is the wrong one and I'm sure I didn't order this one.

This one is of my wife's fathers brother and not the one requested which was my wife's fathers father.

Unusually on the Order Summary sheet that comes with the BC there are no details filled in like all my other order summaries, details such as Year, Qtr, District Vol etc.

How do I query this with the GRO and is it worth even bothering?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Give them a ring and ask for the details of the order.

I always keep a note of what I have ordered so maybe you have a note somewhere.

As it appears that you have been sent a relative's certificate is it possible that you had the reg details for both and wrote the wrong one on the form?

Do the 2 people have the same name?

If it's your mistake you will have to pay for the certificate if it is their mistake they will probably refund your money. However it does seem odd that they have managed to send you a certificate of a relative but not the one you think you ordered unless the 2 people have the same name and were born in same area at the same time.

Anyhow give them a ring and see what they say.

The GRO do occasionally make a mistake. Once I have gone through the payment process I always return to the GRO site to print a copy of every cert order I make which I keep to check against the the cert when it arrives.

You should have received a GRO order confirmation e-mail when you placed your order. Compare the details in that e-mail with what you received.

When I order a certificate, I take a screenprint or snip of my order then do same for the details they send to me at end of order.
Plus they send email of my order, so I can be sure for later.
So easy to mis-type something, or for them to see wrong date. Handy to have it all there.
