Restoring old or faded photographs

Anybody out there with the hidden talent for restoring old photographs? An old friend has asked me if I can help with this one.

Image

It appears to have been over-exposed or faded by the sun, and needs 'bringing back'. It is of my friend's deceased parents. Do you know anyone who enhances photographs as a hobby that might do the job? He can't afford a professional.

The gentleman's suit is mid grey, he has blue eyes, light grey tie and his hair is grey. The lady's dress is light cream or white, with a lilac pattern. She has brown eyes and mid blonde hair. Both have 'normal' complexions, not tanned. If the background could be enhanced this would improve the photograph as well. But it is the people he is really concerned about

I had some a few years ago discovered in an old camera, the shop didn't develop them well and I thought that was the end of them, but I investigated my scanner software and there was a "repair" action in it - what a result it got, really brought the colours out.

If nobody volunteers on here though, I think one of the best places to try would be the Photograph Restoration Board on Rootschat http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.ph ... 298.0.html I have seen some wonderful work done by talented volunteers on there.

Thanks MaryA. My friend has tried using some photo software already but the results weren't very good. Need someone who's a dab hand at it. I'll pass on the info about that Rootschat section.

I got it to give a good black and white print, if they are interested.

Thanks for the offer but my friend followed advice from MaryA and went on Rootschat where he has received excellent help and made good progress in restoring that photo.

I'll second that. time was I tuned in just to see what folks were doing in photo recovery even when I didn't have a query.
