Liverpool & South West Lancashire FHS - Forum

The first division of the city's postal areas seems to have been simply into north, east etc. as shown in Kelly's Directories. Does anyone know when the numerical areas were adopted? I suspect it would be between 1920 and 1940.
I know that the postcodes headed 'L' were much later but am not concerned with them.
