Can anyone recommend a researcher to help with a part of my tree I have beeen stuck on for many years now ?

Hey we all started out and progressed from there, you will do well! Paying a professional researcher is, I believe, further down the line after you have tried all avenues available to yourself and expanded your own knowledge and after that if you really have hit a brick wall then is the time to think about that.

I would like to suggest that you go along to your local group meetings where you will learn a lot http://www.skelmersdale.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/ and also if you were able to travel a little way over to Crosby, Formby or Birkdale Hilary (Education Officer) and a few other members hold Help Desks http://www.southport.liverpool-genealog ... pdesk.html She also has "Getting Started" talks every so often, so ask her where and when the next one is and try to get there as you will learn so much.

I second MaryA's advice wholeheartedly. Paying a pro is really the last resort for a desperate family seeker.

I agree with the comments and thought I was a last resort family researcher. I had posted questions for help on this line of my family several times in the past and got nowhere really. However facebook drew me back here and I have now with the help of some lovely people found out a few more clues about my family and so have saved the researcher fees...

Its a jolly good site to belong too, and also living so far away from my folks back up North I cant always get to the libraries and record offices to look things up.

Keep going its amazing when you open up another link to your family.

As a friend who is a fellow family research nut says...
Only ask and ye might receive, but if you don't ask you won't get. To which I add an old adage from an old stager... While the impossible is sometimes done almost immediately, miracles take a little longer with a following wind, decipherable writing by census enumerators, transcribers using commonsense and decent glasses, etc!
