I'm so excited as I've just received an invitation from the Lord Mayor of Liverpool inviting me to a Service of Remembrance and Rededication in honour of the new names added to The Roll of Honour in the Hall of Remembrance later in January
I had discovered that my great uncle's name was missing from the Roll of Honour and set about having his name inscribed earlier this year.
Special thanks go to Daggers for advising me who to contact in my quest.
So now a little unexpected trip to arrange to Liverpool which I'm looking forward to already
Happy New Year
Cheers
Erika

Oh well done Erika, your relative deserves to have his name publicly honoured and good for you to have fixed that for him.
Hope you have a wonderful time at the ceremony, I'm sure there will be some photos and we'll look forward to seeing them, and enjoy looking around Liverpool too, bet it will be quite different from what you remember - how long is it since you last visited?

Yes, well done for pursuing this. These ceremonies are very well organised and you might need an extra hanky in your luggage!
If I get an invitation this time I hope we can meet, but that is not up to me!!!

It's about 5 years ago since I was last in Liverpool, Mary so all the work that was being done for 2008 will have been finished. Just looking forward to being there. Probably not get much time to do much research whilst there, but we will have the car so maybe get some photos of houses and churches. Must make a list
Hope you do get an invite Daggers. Let me know if you do and we can meet up.
Cheers

I saw a brief snatch of the ceremony and Hall of Remembrance on BBC North West Tonight,, yesterday. There seemed to be a good number of new commemorations, and the Lord Mayor gave a commitment to continue.
Good news!

I'm back after my whistle-stop trip to Liverpool and really pleased to have made the journey however short.
The ceremony at the Town Hall was wonderful and very well organised. There were 21 new names added to the Roll of Honour this time and the service that was presented was very moving as you can imagine.
I did have my 30 secs of fame on the clip that was shown on the local BBC news
We also went to see the Minton tiled floor in St George's Hall which was very impressive, lucky it happened to be on show at the time. A quick trip to the Walker Art Gallery, for hubby really

we managed to fit in too. We did wander down to the docks, but the weather was so awful we nearly got blown away
So another trip in the summer is a must and then I can get some research done hopefully.
A picture of me receiving my scroll from the Mayor is attached.
Cheers

Very well done Erika! Glad you enjoyed Liverpool but pity the weather has been so awful lately. It will be nice if you can return in the summer and see some more sights.
