Old Family Search site gone!

Post by dickiesam »

Now the old Family Search site has been 'taken down' and it's content transferred more or less to the new site https://www.familysearch.org/ it is worth being reminded that when you do a search the site will search any contributed trees online and throw up the results as hits. However, such hits are still completely unverified unlike hits derived from official documents such as registers which, barring occasional errors in transcription, are usually correct.

Yes very sadly as we had got to know the quirks of the old system and could get the best out of it, now we will have to relearn. I only hope the databases linked with the old search have indeed been transferred otherwise a lot will be lost.

It was interesting to learn that it cost over $100,000 per month to keep the old hardware going, although the new set up should be more economical apparently.

Bit of a pain really because I now have several URLs which are redundant.

Hope that's it Blue! great link.

AddedSorry, after trying to find a marriage that I know was on the old IGI, it would appear that the same database just isn't connected with this search.
