Aren't we lucky!!

Post by Hilary »

My Canadian relatives have just sent me this detailing the coast of a death certificate in SasKatchewan Canada

"Basic death cert is $75.00 and if you want it to list cause of death it is then $100.00".

I went on a converter 100 Canadian dollars is £62 and we moan about £9.25!!

Oh boy! I think I'd change my hobby or hope nobody died... Those certs must be handwritten in copperplate on parchment by a monk in the Canadian Rockies? Is the frame extra I wonder?

Wow! no wonder the Canadians are happy they went from England, most of their research is here!

It's a shame that it's so difficult to research your ancestry in some countries. Genealogy should be about documenting the lives of all sorts of people not just the ancestry of the wealthy.

After learning of the costs my relatives have, I might just spend the £42 necessary to get the info from the 1939 National Identity Census if that's it's correct name in the hope I'll get my elusive grandmother's date of birth and then find her birth certificate!!!!!

Last of the big spenders!

Just be absolutely sure you have the right person before you apply, it's too much money for a gamble.

I understand it comnes down to privacy laws in different countries and what is classed as a private record and what is classed as public etc.

When the article about the 1939 NHS Register appeared in the Journal I decided to bite the bullet (so to speak) to see if I could find my Grandmothers dob. If you can provide the address they will provide details for up to 9 people living at the address. In my case there were 9 living at the address but they only gave me 4 - My Grandfather - my Grandmother - my Mother - and one sister. Since at the time the others were still alive they would not give out their details. I think it was well worth as I have Grandmothers dob - sadly I still have not found her GRO registration.

Thanks for that I may just do it. I think I know the address but will check it both by the directory and by the electoral. I think there would just have been my grandmother and mother (both deceased). I have death certificates for both.
