Irish DNA Geographical Project

Post by Blue70 »

"The Irish DNA Atlas project is now moving into the genetic analysis stage of its study. The academic project, a collaboration between the Genealogical Society of Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) aims to create a detailed picture of genetic structure in Ireland, and pick out the genetic characteristics of people whose ancestors came from specific geographical areas.":-

Perhaps in the future people who are struggling to find their exact geographical roots in Ireland will be able to use their DNA markers to give them a better idea of a probable area where their ancestors came from. This might bypass the problem of anglicised surnames and the same name originating in different places in Ireland.

Interesting and you are right, there will be a lot who wonder whereabouts their ancestors came from.
